I have noticed a lot fewer orders in the Carolinas and Florida. Folks there were hit hard by the hurricanes this season and are still recovering. Myself and Tuka The Wonder Dog send you our hopes for a quick recovery.

L.E.D. lights have been popular this year, and we sold out quickly. I just got more in today. We also sold an unusual amount of 10″ taper candles, those are also in stock again today.

I have been toying with the idea of letting go of the smaller 5″ candles completely and  just going to the 10″ only. I still have a stock supply right now, so we will weight it out as the season wears on.

This should result in some birch bowls and other things showing up in the Etsy store for purchase. I have zero idea how this will go, I’ve been watching a LOT of youtube videos and I am a bit intimidated, but also pretty excited.

This weekend I am cleaning up from the chaos of holiday Yule Log season while trying to figure out where this new addition is going to go. This is an exciting expansion that has been on my list for quite some time.

The best advice I have to offer in doing this is to store your logs in an open-air situation, not wrapped in cellophane or closed in an air-tight container. Allow them to air dry in the open completely, or store them in the open air. Closing a wet green piece of birch in an air tight situation will cause mold. Birch sap  is quite sugary, not so much as maple, but still quite sweet. These sugars, dampness, and no circulation is just a perfect recipe for mold.

Also of note is that as the moisture evaporates some tannins and other natural elements of the birch may seep out. So it’s also a consideration that as the moisture leaves the wood, it may stain white or light colored cloth.

There will be some warping and shifting as your log products dry, this is normal and shouldn’t affect the use of your log in the future.

Once the Christmas holiday is over, I’ll set up the shop to get a bunch of these on the stock shelf and ready to ship. I have a few on hand right now that can ship on Monday.

These rustic tealight candle holders are made right here in Maine in my shop by myself and my supervisor, Tuka the Wonder Dog, from kiln-dried pine. Each piece is unique as no two piece burn or finish the same. Wood is charred, then finished with a light coat of polyurethane.

These candles have the look of “Shou Sugi Ban” preservation, but aren’t truly scorched cedar. Using a lightly burnt pine with a finish helps keep your home from smelling smoky and keeps the piece from becoming overly sticky or oily.

Choices are 12″ or 6″ long holders, both come with tealight candles.
* 12″ 3 tier holders measure 2″ wide x 12″ long x 4 3/8″ high and holds 4 candles each.
* 6″ 2 tier holders measure 2″ wide x 6″ long x 2 7/8″ high and holds 2 candles each.

Our packaging foam and some of our boxes are recycled from a local garage door installation business to minimize waste and impact on the planet.

We have fared the storm well, no real damage. Just no electricity and we have to flush with buckets from rain collection. We are thankful to have a generator, heat, and food…. and of course, Tuka the Wonder Dog.

I have a shelf full of these rough and tumble rustic logs that are just wonderful pieces of Maine, but don’t quite fit the bill for “Christmas pristine magic” but they DO fit the bill for pagan altar magic or camp and cabin getaway ambiance.

These rustic log candle holders are rough around the edges. They’ve seen rough winters, hot summers, and the rigors of the Maine wilderness. They are either off-color, scarred from harvesting, peeling, or off-shape in some way. Some are brown, grey, red, brown, or nice and white but with scarred bark, knots, or other unique deformities.

These are the log candle holders you want for a true birch outdoorsy look in your home, camp, or cabin. I unfortunately can’t take “special requests” with these rugged logs, I am working through a stack and I’ll grab each order from the top as they come. So expect a fair amount of variation in appearance.

We’re located in Maine, so the longest shipping times we are getting is 5 days. That’s to California and Hawaii. Closer destinations like Chicago, Maryland are estimated at 2 or 3 days, New Jersey, and similar areas are 2 day estimates.

After the 16th, we will still be shipping same or next day, but chances of getting your log by the holiday may be a gamble and out of our control.

A leaf of the manuscript provides an image of the vegvísir, gives its name, and, in prose, declares that “if this sign is carried, one will never lose one’s way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known”.
