Holidays are coming!!
With Thanksgiving, then Yuletide, and even Christmas coming up, things are getting busy around the shop. I *THINK* I have enough logs cut to length and sawn lengthwise to get through the season. I had to order in more boxes already and make extra trips up to the garage door company to get supplies. I have noticed a lot fewer orders in the Carolinas and Florida. Folks there were hit hard by the hurricanes this season and are still recovering. Myself and Tuka The Wonder Dog send you our hopes for a quick recovery. L.E.D. lights have been popular this year, and we sold out quickly. I just got more…

Fishing Section
Fehuwoks has added a “Fishing” section to the ETSY store. I used to own a tackle shop nestled in the countryside of Maine and it remains an interest. I am still tying flies and have some stock left over form the shop.

Wood Turning Coming Soon
Monday I venture out of the shop to a friend’s house where I will pick up a “resident” that I am tending here at the shop. A Wood Lathe. It’s a loan to try out and see if I want to further my adventures in wood turning. This should result in some birch bowls and other things showing up in the Etsy store for purchase. I have zero idea how this will go, I’ve been watching a LOT of youtube videos and I am a bit intimidated, but also pretty excited. This weekend I am cleaning up from the chaos of holiday Yule Log season while trying to figure out…

Storing Yule Logs
The 2023 fall and winter season in Maine was VERY wet. That means wet logs, a lot of sap in the wood, and a lot of rain. Our Yule logs are generally quite green in 95% of the logs we ship. Now that the holidays are over, some folks want to save their Yule logs for future years instead of burning them. The best advice I have to offer in doing this is to store your logs in an open-air situation, not wrapped in cellophane or closed in an air-tight container. Allow them to air dry in the open completely, or store them in the open air. Closing a wet…

NEW Charred Rustic Tealight Holders from Fehu Works
Today I added the newest product to the Etsy Shop, these rustic charred wood tealight candle holders. They are a real joy to make and add a real rustic charm to any occasion or room. Once the Christmas holiday is over, I’ll set up the shop to get a bunch of these on the stock shelf and ready to ship. I have a few on hand right now that can ship on Monday. These rustic tealight candle holders are made right here in Maine in my shop by myself and my supervisor, Tuka the Wonder Dog, from kiln-dried pine. Each piece is unique as no two piece burn or finish…

Recovery
Still no electricity here at Yule Log Central, but early this morning I got the garage “hot wired” to run off generator power. All orders were cut, drilled, and packed this morning and will be going out with this afternoon’s pick up. Our brave women of the Brownfield Maine mail route are still in action and able to pick up and deliver. We weren’t “late” on any orders, but didn’t want anyone to see the holiday without a Yule Log. We have fared the storm well, no real damage. Just no electricity and we have to flush with buckets from rain collection. We are thankful to have a generator,…

Fehu Works Closed
Today the shop was closed. Today Maine was bombarded by a South-eastern storm that hammered us with unusually warm temps, but also heavy wind and rain. The power has been out all day, which makes running saws and what not safely a challenge. Orders placed on 12/16 before end of day or earlier were filled and shipped today. One way or another we will resume operation tomorrow (Tuesday 12/19/23) to get your orders out ASAP.

Tealight Logs for Home, Cabin, or Camp
As the rush of fulfilling holiday orders around the shop subsides, the time to breathe gives Tuka and I a chance to consider what’s here, tidy up, and think about new products and uses for things that may not have fit the holidays. I have a shelf full of these rough and tumble rustic logs that are just wonderful pieces of Maine, but don’t quite fit the bill for “Christmas pristine magic” but they DO fit the bill for pagan altar magic or camp and cabin getaway ambiance. These rustic log candle holders are rough around the edges. They’ve seen rough winters, hot summers, and the rigors of the Maine…

Will I get My Log Before Christmas?
Fehu Works shop has been in full force and we’re keeping up with orders as they come in. Orders placed on one day, are shipping the following day. If you want your log by Christmas, the surest safe bet is to order on or before December 16th. We’re located in Maine, so the longest shipping times we are getting is 5 days. That’s to California and Hawaii. Closer destinations like Chicago, Maryland are estimated at 2 or 3 days, New Jersey, and similar areas are 2 day estimates. After the 16th, we will still be shipping same or next day, but chances of getting your log by the holiday may…

Vegvisir Candle
The vegvísir (Icelandic for “wayfinder”, lit. ’way shower’) is an Icelandic magical stave intended to help the bearer find their way through rough weather. The symbol is attested in the Huld Manuscript, collected in Iceland by Geir Vigfusson in Akureyri in 1860, and does not have any earlier attestations. A leaf of the manuscript provides an image of the vegvísir, gives its name, and, in prose, declares that “if this sign is carried, one will never lose one’s way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known”. Putting it on an all natural birch candle seemed like the right way to go for those finding their way.…
